Last summer we went on a camping trip. My dad and Robby were complaining we were running out of drinking water. My mom and I went out on the lake with a water filter. I went to the middle of the canoe to pump water with the water filter. I leaned over to one side.  Bad choice!  Two seconds later we were in the water. :-(     We had to swim back about 150 feet back to camp.  The reason it happened is we didn’t keep our weight in the middle of the canoe.

photos-580aTip: Don’t stand in the middle of a canoe and lean over. I learned the hard way.

Note to all viewers: Don’t go camping unless you really like it. People say it’s fun but it’s so boring just sitting there carving a wooden spear!

Whittling a spear and coaxing a fire.

Finally they let me read the map while dad pumps water!

  1. Aww Trevor, I thought you would like trying to build a fire the hard way and cooking over an open flame. Weren’t the biscuits on a stick good? So we got a little wet on a cold day and it rained every night and the wood wouldn’t start without the ‘Girl Scout Fire Starter’. It was an experience, wasn’t it? Are you going to write about our camp ‘guests’ next?

  2. This is so funny! I didn’t know you tipped over the canoe! You and Robby look so bored!

  3. jasonandjen might think you look bored, but I think you both look TOTALLY relaxed, what with getting back to nature and such! :) I can’t wait until the lakes thaw and summer comes back to the midwest. Are you coming to Longville again this year???? What would tube wars be without you??? AND this time you can learn to slalom waterski.

  4. @ Aunt Tami: yeah, we were bored, not really relaxed~darn mosquitoes! Why slalom waterskiing, I like the other way better…

@ jasonandjen: yeah we are really bored, Robby and dad were laughing at us from shore when we tipped it over.

  5. That definately is the hard way to learn not to stand up in a canoe! Why didn’t you have a book along to read when you got bored?!?!
